Woman shot in La Mesa

LA MESA, Calif. — A woman was wounded Thursday evening in a shooting in La Mesa, authorities said.
Around 6:13 p.m., a woman called police to say she had been shot in the leg, according to La Mesa police. Officers found the woman in front of the home in the 3700 block of Harris Street. Medics took the woman to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The owner of the home told FOX 5 that the woman who was shot was a roommate, but he did not know how she was shot.
Neighbors say this particular house has been a problem in the neighborhood for quite some time.
“Over the years, consistently, SWAT has been called out, police have been called out. There are drug users that are very obviously high walking back and forth from that house so it’s just not a surprise that violence occurred,” said Jennifer Smiley.
Police are investigating and are not yet able to release any information about the suspect or the motive.
Police tweeted a request that people “stay clear of the area” and residents “shelter in place.” By 7:45 p.m., police tweeted the “shelter in place” order had been lifted.
The public is encouraged to call the La Mesa Police Department at 619-667-1400 if they have any information regarding this incident. They may also call Crime Stoppers’ anonymous toll-free tip line 888-580-TIPS. There is up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
