A 15-year-old Helix High sophomore died in a San Diego hospital Sunday, more than two weeks after he was stabbed during a brawl at a Chula Vista house party, police said Tuesday.
Devin Griffiths was protecting a friend from being attacked by several other teens or young men when he was fatally injured Jan. 31 during the birthday party at a home on Maria Way south of East L Street, according to Chula Vista police and his family.
Homicide investigators are now seeking witnesses, cellphone video of the fight and street-facing surveillance video from that night from homes on Maria Way in an effort to identify suspects, according to a statement from Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak.
