San Diego Chuck E. Cheese's Fined for Child Labor Violations

A local Chuck E. Cheese restaurant was fined nearly $4,000 for violating child labor laws, the Department of Labor announced Friday.

A local Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant was fined nearly $4,000 for violating child labor laws, the Department of Labor announced Friday.

The restaurant will pay $3,928 in penalties for allowing underage employees to use dough mixer as part of their job, the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) said.

The Fair Labor Standards Act prohibits employees under the age of 18 to use, set up, clean or adjust such machinery, the agency said.

Investigators also found that Chuck E. Cheese’s did not maintain proof that their minor employees were old enough to work.

“We encourage employers to contact the Wage and Hour Division for assistance, and to make use of the many tools we provide to help them understand the law and avoid violations,” WHD San Diego district director Rodolfo Cortes said.

NBC 7 has reached out to Chuck E. Cheese’s for comment but have not heard back.
