Padres Win Series Finale against Diamondbacks in Extra Innings

After playing 23 of their last 28 games on the road the Padres are coming home.

Fittingly the last game of this latest road trip lasted 16 innings. The Friars faced the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field Sunday afternoon and it was a lengthy affair.

Miguel Diaz took the mound for the Padres in the 11th inning for the first time since he was called up to the team. Diaz struck out four batters in his first inning back in the big leagues. The Dominican-born player became the first Padre since 2009 to do that.

In the 16th inning Will Myers decided to put this game to bed. Arizona had run out of pitchers so they had catcher Jeff Mathis on the mound. Myers didn’t cut him any slack and sent a towering solo shot to the opposite side of the field. It was his fourth homer in the last two days.

In the bottom of the 16th inning Brad Hand faced Chris Owings. The Padres 2018 All-Star got the ground out to seal the 4-3 win.

The Padres will start the first of four games against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday July 9 at 7:10 p.m. PST at Petco Park.
