The Lemon Grove Lions Club received help when the La Mesa Lions Club purchased $1,000 of food from the San Diego Food Bank and helped distribute it to the residents of Lemon Grove in late May. David Shaw, former president of the La Mesa Lions, said all of the service clubs are not able to meet in person and by holding video conference meetings the clubs are still able to do service work within the communities. Shaw said they distributed 200 bags of food for those in need in Lemon Grove. “That’s what service clubs are all about,” Shaw said. The service groups also helped local medical staff. “We delivered 50 dinners to nurses and staff who were working the COVID-19 ICU floors at Grossmont Hospital,” said Shaw. “You have to use a caterer and it has to be individual meals. Cupids Catering did this for us. We wanted to use them because their business has to be really suffering during this time.”
