Household hazardous waste accepted at one-day collection

The nonprofit PaintCare is hosting a Paint Drop-off event at Steele Canyon High School on Aug. 26 from 8 a.m. – noon, giving local households and businesses the opportunity to drop off leftover paint for recycling.

PaintCare will accept unwanted paint and primers, stains, deck and concrete sealers, and clear finishes. Paint must be sealed in original containers with the original manufacturer label. PaintCare cannot accept leaking, unlabeled, or empty containers; aerosol spray paints; drums or containers larger than five gallons; hazardous waste or other chemicals, such as paint thinner, solvents, motor oil, spackle, glue, adhesive, roofing tar, pesticides, or cleaning chemicals.

To use PaintCare drop-off sites and events for oil-based paint, a business must qualify as an exempt generator under federal and any similar state hazardous waste generator rules. Please visit www.paintcare.org/VSQG for more information on exempt generator rules.

Steele Canyon High School is located at 12440 Campo Road in Spring Valley. Registration is required at https://paint-spring-valley.eventbrite.com.
