The Grossmont College swim and dive team will be well represented at this weekend’s 72nd annual California Community College state championship meet at De Anza College in Cupertino.
The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference champion men’s team will showcase seven swimmers who have qualified in 16 individual events, led by PCAC Co-Swimmer of the Year Austin Dickman.
Dickman has qualified to compete in three individual events at the state meet: 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke.
The Granite Hills High School alumnus will have a lot of teammates to both cheer on and cheer him on in Cupertino.
Garret Hail (50 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle) and Mack Nevins (500 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle) also qualified in three individual events for this weekend’s state meet.
Isaiah Webster (50 freestyle and 100 freestyle), Brian Kuhn (1650 freestyle and 500 freestyle) and Anson Rasmusson (one- and three-meter diving) each qualified in two events while Trevor Perez will compete in the three-meter diving program.
Wes Papike and Tristan Correia, along with the rest of the team, will participate in relays.
Grossmont College’s women’s team, which finished third at this years PCAC finals, has two individual state qualifiers: Carli Willis in the 500 freestyle, 400 individual medley and 200 butterfly and Noelle Abrantes in the one-meter and three-meter diving competition.

CIF tennis
A total of 10 Grossmont Conference teams qualified for this week’s San Diego Section boys tennis team playoff tournament.
First-round play was scheduled to begin Tuesday, followed by quarterfinals on Wednesday and semifinals on Thursday leading to championship matches on Friday at the Balboa Tennis Club.
Grossmont (8-6) earned the No. 14 seed in the Division I bracket and was scheduled to open the playoffs at third-seeded Scripps Ranch (10-4) on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to meet either sixth-seeded Westview (6-8) or 11th-seeded Point Loma (6-9) in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
La Jolla County Dray (9-7) received the No. 1 seed among Division I teams while Rancho Bernardo (6-10) received the No. 2 seed.
Steele Canyon (11-1) received the No. 1 seed in the Division II bracket and was scheduled to open the playoffs on Tuesday against 16th-seeded Southwest El Centro (10-6), with the winner advancing to face either eighth-seeded Carlsbad (7-9) or ninth-seeded Calexico (10-2) in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
Overall, five Grossmont Conference teams received seeds in the Division II playoffs.
Santana (13-3) received the No. 3 seed and was scheduled to host 14th-seeded University City (11-9) on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to meet either sixth-seeded Poway (10-2) or 11th-seeded El Cajon Valley (12-2) in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
Seventh-seeded Sage Creek (11-4) was scheduled to host 10th-seeded Helix (4-8) in Tuesday’s opening round, with the winner advancing to meet either second-seeded Patrick Henry (10-6) or 15th-seeded Valhalla (6-11) in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
The Division III playoff bracket included four East County teams: eighth-seeded Monte Vista (8-5), 10th-seeded Granite Hills (7-9), 14th-seeded Christian (5-7) and 15th-seeded West Hills (5-8).
Mt. Miguel was scheduled to face ninth-seeded Mission Bay (10-3) in Tuesday’s opening round, with the winner to meet either top-seeded Serra (11-3) or 16th-seeded Castle Park (5-5) in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
Granite Hills was scheduled to meet seventh-seeded Horizon Prep (9-2) in Tuesday’s opening round while West Hills was scheduled to meet second-seeded Mater Dei Catholic (11-1), with the winners of both match-ups advancing to meet each other in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
Christian was scheduled to open the division playoff tournament at third-seeded Chula Vista (10-2).
