Great Horned Owl Returns to Wild After Injury

The San Diego Wildlife Center celebrated a success this weekend as a great horned owl was returned to the wild.

The owl was found earlier this month with a serious injury and rehabilitated back to full strength.

The organization believes the owl was fighting a red-tailed hawk over territory near Camp Pendleton when her stomach was punctured.

Officials with the center say it’s common to find injured birds this time of year because they are territorial when building and caring for their nests.

The San Diego Wildlife Center is a program of the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.
