Escondido Man Faces Felony Charges in Fatal Collision

An Escondido man was arrested on charges of felony manslaughter and suspicion of driving under the influence after a deadly collision in Vista the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.Two pickup trucks and a motorcycle collided on Gopher Canyon Road near East Vista Way at approximately 8 p.m. Monday. Snow Totals Are In for Powerful Winter Storm David James Johnson, 33, of Escondido was arrested for felony DUI charges and felony manslaughter charges following the collision. CHP officers say Johnson was driving a Ford F-250 eastbound when he drifted over the solid yellow line and into the path of a Ford Ranger.  Sources Say Lack of Ambulance Staff Impacting Response Times Johnson’s truck sideswiped the Ranger causing the Ranger to flip, officers said. Johnson then continued to drive in the opposite direction and collided a Harley Davidson motorcycle.  Johnson’s truck overturned.  SeaWorld Entertainment CEO Steps Down: CNBC The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified only as a 24-year-old San Diego man. The driver of the Ford Ranger was sent to Palomar Medical Center with what were described by the CHP as minor injuries.Some road closures were posted in the area following the crash, and a Sig Alert was issued.
