East County grads Turk, Raley are now competing at Point Loma Nazarene College

Foothills Christian High School alumna Ellie Turk and West Hills High School graduate Carly Raley are competing at the next level with the Point Loma Nazarene University women’s basketball team and helping the Sea Lions to a very successful 202-21 season so far, in fact.

Turk, a freshman, is averaging 10.8 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per game for PLNU (7-2 overall, 6-2 in PacWest Conference play).

Raley, a senior forward, is back on the floor this season after spending her junior season mending from an injury. She was a member of the Sea Lions’ PacWest tournament runner-up team as a freshman in 2017-18.

Turk had nine points in Point Loma Nazarene’s 92-83 win over visiting Concordia on Saturday.

She ranks third in team scoring behind teammates Cara Liggins (15.9 ppg) and Haylee Saurette (12.6 ppg).

Turk appeared in 86 varsity games for Foothills Christian from 2017-2020 while averaging 23.3 points per game, 6.9 assists per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, 5.8 steals per game and 2.6 blocks per game. As a senior, she averaged 24.0 points, 7.2 assists and 6.4 steals per game to lead the county in points, assists and steals.

Turk, a three-year member of the El Cajon school’s honor roll with a GPA of 4.0 or higher, helped lead Foothills Christian to three runner-up appearances in the San Diego Section championship playoffs — all against Madison High School. The Lady Knights finished second in the Division V final in 2018, second in the Division IV final in 2019 and second in the Division III final in 2020.

Raley, a 2017 graduate of West Hills, lettered four years at the Santee school in basketball and swimming, earning first team all-league honors as a senior. The 2016-17 West Hills hoops squad advanced as far as the Division I section finals after recording an 8-2 record in league play, 21-8 overall.

The Sea Lions have four games remaining on their 2020-21 schedule — Feb. 19 at Biola, Feb. 20 at home against Biola, Feb. 26 at home against Azusa Pacific and Feb. 27 at Azusa Pacific.

The NCAA West Regionals are scheduled March 12-15 at a site to be announced. The NCAA championships are scheduled March 23-26 in Columbus, Ohio.

PLNU leads the PacWest Southern California pod that includes Azusa Pacific (5-3), Concordia (4-4) and Biola (1-7).
