Driver Says Brakes Failure Sent SUV Into Lakeside Home

A driver whose SUV crashed through the wall of a Lakeside home early Monday said her brakes gave out as she was on a windy, downhill slope.

Stephanie Sanders said when the brakes failed said she tried to manage the curves of Eucalyptus Hills Drive but at a T in the road, she was forced to sharply turn, which sent her red Ford Excursion into a home on Oak Creek Drive at about 3:45 a.m.

“I did everything my dad taught me too — I pumped (the brakes) and that didn’t do anything; I put (the SUV) down into drive one and that slowed it down a little bit but then it just kept going; And I put my emergency brake, that barely did anything,” Sanders said.

The car crashed into the home’s living room while the homeowners were asleep in another room.

Everyone inside the home, the driver and her passenger were uninjured.

California Highway Patrol said the driver was not facing charges for the crash.

Building inspectors were called to assess the damage.
