Coast Guard Searches for Man Who Fell From Pacific Beach Pier

San Diego lifeguards will search the ocean Monday for a man who friends say hit his head in a fall from a pier off Pacific Beach. San Diego Fire-Rescue searched for more than an hour Sunday after the report of a 27-year-old man into the water near Crystal Pier around 5:30 p.m.  Encinitas Woman Burned in House Fire The victim fell backward off the pier and may have hit his head on the way down, friends said. No one saw the man resurface after the fall. A lifeguard immediately jumped into the water from the pier and a lifeguard boat began searching as well. The search was called off at 7 p.m., after an hour and a half of searching.The U.S. Coast Guard arrived at the scene as lifeguards were leaving and continued to search the area with a boat and helicopter overnight. “Our primary objective now is recovery,” Marine Safety Lieutenant John Sandmeyer told NBC 7. “We’ll have assets in the water at daybreak.”The SDFD Lifeguard Division dive team was back in the water Monday morning looking for any sign of the man.”[We’re] mostly really checking the rip currents as they go along the pier,” Sandmeyer explained. “Once you get in the water you can really feel it pull.
