A San Diego police officer and a vandalism suspect were injured when they were struck by a vehicle in the Midway District early Thursday, officials confirmed.
The two were struck just before 5 a.m. as the officer had the suspect pinned to the ground in the area near Rosecrans Street and Midway Drive, San Diego Police Department Sgt. Thomas Sullivan said.
Prior to the crash, officers were chasing the suspect on foot through the area after receiving a report of vandalism.
Both the officer and the suspect were injured and rushed to the hospital were treatment, SDPD said. The extent of their injuries was not made available.
The driver stayed at the scene.
The investigation into the crash shut down a busy stretch of Rosecrans Street. Westbound lanes were shut down between Sports Arena Boulevard and Midway Drive.
