A driver was arrested after leading police on a short pursuit that ended with a crash at a property in City Heights.
The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said gang unit officers attempted to pull over a car and around 6 p.m. and the driver refused to stop.
A short time later the car crashed into the yard of a home on the 4200 block of 42nd Street. He slammed through an iron yard fence and collided with the porch.
“Initially we heard the screeching and the police sirens and that kind of got our attention,” witness Bailey Cambra said. “And next thing we heard was impact.”
Police say the driver fled the crash on foot and tried to break into the Salazar family’s home where two children were sleeping.
“He was pushing the door and then I locked the door, and was screaming ‘Please, let me go in’ [in Spanish],” Cehica Salazar said.
Salazar said she’s never seen the man before.
The driver was taken into custody, SDPD said. Officers said he had no arrest warrants and, apparently, no reason to run.
A juvenile passenger was also in the car, police said. No injuries were reported.
