More Than Abel: SD Pitcher Gets College World Series Win

KevinAbelCWSforWEB

Madison High School alum Kevin Abel pitched an absolute gem against Arkansas Thursday night in the deciding game of the College World Series.

The Oregon State freshman struck out ten batters, allowed only two hits and tossed a complete game shutout against the Razorbacks to help the Beavers win their third NCAA baseball championship.

Oregon won game three by a score of 5-0 behind Abel’s strong outing on the mound and an impressive performance by Beavers catcher Adley Rustchman at the plate.

Rustchman was named Most Outstanding Player of the series after collecting a College World Series-record 17 hits as well as 13 RBIs.

Abel was drafted by his hometown San Diego Padres in the 35th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft.

He rightly decided to stay focused on going to college and committed to Oregon State University on a baseball scholarship.

His teammates sure are happy he made that decision.
