The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning of dangerous swimming conditions at San Diego Beaches as thousands of locals and visitors are expected to hit the waves for the Fourth of July holiday.
Large breaking waves and strong rip and longshore currents prompted the NWS to issue a beach hazards statement from Wednesday evening through Friday evening.
During that time period, waves are expected to reach six to eight feet along south-facing beaches in north San Diego County, the NWS said.
Waves could be dangerous for swimmers, the NWS warned. The agency urges swimmers to listen to lifeguards and use caution when in or near the water while the beach hazards statement is in effect.
