Co-presented by the Spring Valley Community Alliance, New Seasons Church, and the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Spring Valley Day Planning Committee is looking to the local community in bringing together a day of celebration with its inaugural Spring Valley Day 2023 to be held on April 29.
Spring Valley Community Alliance Communications Chair Jen Althof said the Spring Valley area has a long standing custom of neighborhood celebrations in the area and that is what Spring Valley Day is all about, celebrating the diversity and beauty of the unincorporated community, including La Presa, and revitalizing the tradition.
Althof said the plan is for this to be a local annual event that presents everything that Spring Valley has to offer, and the committee is now looking for sponsors, local businesses, food, artists, crafts, merchandised, nonprofits, music, and volunteers to pull Spring Valley Day together.
“Spring Valley has a long history of community fairs and celebrations,” she said. “We are trying to bring back that spirit of community celebration. Our hope is that it turns into an annual event and becomes something that continues on for years to come.”
Althof said the theme of Spring Valley Day 2023 is “celebrating Spring Valley” with a goal to highlight the community’s diversity, the beauty of Spring Valley, and everything that is strong in the community.
“Give residents the opportunity to come out and meet each other and also highlight the resources available in Spring Valley,” she said. “Including County services, but also our wonderful businesses, merchants, food, arts and craft vendors, and all of the talent that we have here. This is an opportunity for us to bring all those people together just to show off what we have here in Spring Valley. We are definitely looking to represent everybody that lives here.”
Althof said with the diversity that Spring Valley holds in its residents, it pretty well entails “everything under the sun.”
“Music, whether it be classic rock, Latin music, jazz, funk, pop, orchestra, mariachi, we are trying to get the local marching bands to perform,” she said. “The same with the food. There is such a diverse offering of food here from our local Mexican restaurants to Pan-Asian cuisine. There is so much out here we want to make sure we are representing everybody and celebrating that diversity, and offering a chance for everyone to come out and see what Spring Valley has to offer.”
Althof said that they are looking for as many local Spring Valley businesses, artisans, and volunteers who live, work, or have grown up in the community to come out and help bring together Spring Valley Day, but its neighbors, Lemon Grove, La Mesa, National City, and all the surrounding communities are welcome as well.
Althof said the San Diego County Board of Supervisors awarded a grant for Spring Valley Day, but they are still looking for sponsors to cover the costs of the attractions that will be there.
“Live music, pony rides, car show, but we also want to give those businesses or individuals the opportunity to be recognized and advertised in the community,” she said. “So, Spring Valley Day could potentially have some definite benefits for local businesses for those who may be interested in sponsoring.”
Spring Valley Day 2023 will be held April 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of Bancroft Elementary School where Bancroft Drive and Tyler Street intersect.
Available event sponsorship packages include marketing and event. Exclusive sponsorship packages are available. Event planners are looking for food, arts and crafts, merchandise, and nonprofit vendors to sign up for booth space. Booths range in price depending on type, with an early registration discount available until Feb. 1. Volunteers are needed to help monitor parking and traffic, setup & break down, and keep the area clean during the event.
