La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club busy delivering citrus fruit to those in need

It’s been a fruitful spring for members of the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club.

For the past month, the 35-member philanthropic club has been picking and delivering fresh fruit across San Diego County during the COVID-19 crisis. And there’s no stopping them now.

While keeping social distance practices in mind, members of the group have been taking fruit picked from their own trees and searching for others who might want to share some of their bounty, and bringing the fruit to individuals and families living in their cars in safe parking areas, churches and food banks.

On Tuesday morning, seven face-masked Rotarians armed with branch clippers, 8-foot fruit pickers, ladders and plastic bags were invited to the home of San Carlos resident Lisa Heil to pick from her two backyard orange trees.
