Forward Rate Stopped for Green Fire in Guatay


Cal Fire San Diego stopped the forward rate of spread of Green Fire that was sparked by a car crash on Highway 79 in Guatay.

Cal Fire reported the fire at about 11 a.m., near the Green Valley Campground in Guatay, in eastern San Diego County near Descanso.

Officials said a car crash caused the fire and it quickly grew to five acres.

Traffic has been closed in both directions of HWY 79 near Green Valley Campground. California Highway Patrol is escorting traffic through the area.

Crews will remain on the scene into late afternoon to mop-up and contain the fire, said Cal Fire.

No injuries were reported in the car crash, Cal Fire said.
