Drone Prevented Water Drops Over Santee Brush Fire: Cal Fire

santeefire

A helicopter attempting to make water drops over a brush fire in a Santee that forced home evacuations Tuesday was forced to land because of a drone flying in the airspace, Cal Fire said.

Cal Fire tweeted that the drone was spotted shortly after its helicopter arrived to the scene near Olive Lane and Prospect Avenue.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department (SDSO) was evacuating homes in the area at around 4 p.m. while the Santee Fire Department was battling the fire.

Cal Fire said that drones cause a danger for responders in the air and on the ground, and said operators would be prosecuted.

The SDSO said no structures were threatened.
