Carlsbad Tracks Closed After Person Struck, Killed by Train

A person was struck and killed by a train in Carlsbad Monday, prompting the tracks to be shut down for an investigation.

The deadly crash involving an Amtrak train happened at about 8:15 a.m. near the Carlsbad Poinsettia Station.

The tracks were shut down and the Carlsbad Poinsettia Station was closed as San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies (SDSO) investigated the crash. The train sat on the tracks for hours as deputies tended to the scene.

North County Transit District (NCTD) said they would create a “bus bridge,” transporting riders around the closure via bus, from the Encinitas Station to the Oceanside Transit Center.

The train tracks were reopened at about 10:30 a.m. but passengers were not allowed to disembark at the Poinsettia station. It was unclear when the station would reopen.

Trains were experiencing about an hour-and-a-half delay due to the investigation, according to Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner Twitter

It was the second time in two days a person was killed on train tracks in San Diego’s North County.

On Sunday, a person was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Oceanside.

The identities of neither victim have been released.
