Bar cited during pandemic

A cease-and-desist order was issued on Monday, Nov. 16 from the county of San Diego to The Landing, a downtown El Cajon bar for going against the Health Officer Order and Emergency Regulations.

Those regulations state ‘restaurants, bars and wineries may not operate indoors’ under current San Diego county Tier 1 status.

According to manager Pam Alexander, the Cease and Desist order does not mean they have closed; the establishment is still fully open for business, but has taken steps to ensure they are following county guidelines.

“The county was very nice about it, they came in and we did have three patrons hanging out inside watching the game, six feet apart.

“Unfortunately, the bartender that day had just gotten back into town and didn’t know the changed requirements. We’ve since made sure everyone stays outside in the tent,” Alexander said.

The bar has partnered with Antique Row restaurant located next door to have meals delivered directly to the outdoor seating area.

Alexander went on to say she appreciates the need for safety and everyone at the bar is closely following regulations because “we’re trying our best to stay open— if we have to close entirely again, we’re done”.

The Landing was one of 17 establishments cited by the county for violating health and safety orders
