3 Killed After Car Carrying 6 Was Broadsided at Oceanside Intersection

Three people were killed and four others were injured in a high-speed traffic collision at a busy Oceanside intersection.

The accident happened during the lunch-hour rush.

Surveillance video from a gas station across the intersection shows a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck headed southbound on Coast Highway broadside a silver Mazda with six people inside headed eastbound on Oceanside Boulevard.

Two people, including a 13-year-old girl, were ejected out of the back window of the Mazda, according to Oceanside Police Department Lt. Tom Bussey.

Two back-seat passengers in the Mazda, identified only as adult women, were pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the truck is a 19-year-old man. Police later identified him as Mason Fish. He was not injured.

Drugs or alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash.

A total of three ambulances and two air ambulances were called to provide rapid transportation for the people critically injured, the Oceanside Fire Department said.

The air ambulances landed on Coast Highway just south of the crash site.

Two people were taken to Scripps La Jolla Medical Center, one person was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital, and another person was taken to Tri-City Medical Center.

The manager at the gas station convenience store witnessed the crash.

“I was here when I heard the crash. I turned my head across the street and saw two people in the air already,” Edwin Trinidad said.

Coast highway is closed at Eucalyptus to the north and Godfrey Street to the south.
